Black Diamond ATC Guide
The ATC Guide is designed with mountaineering and climbing instructors in mind as it can be used to take two clients up at the same time but with the ability to self lock if one client falls (similar to a Magic plate or Petzl Reverso) The problem with other devices is that if the client is hanging in space and is unable to take the load of the device then it is difficult to unlock and lower the client down.This however is not such a problem with the ATC Guide as it had a small hole for attaching a thin sling or cord to which can be loaded to free the device.
It can also be used as a normal belay device with a single rope or even thin double ropes using the grooves to give extra friction.

New from Dmm the V-twin is made from stainless steel for durability and better heat management. It stays a lot cooler on long abseils when compared to it's aluminium counterparts. Alot of time was spent by Dmm on the design of the directional teeth on the body of the V-Twin so as to easily control the friction, but at the same time allow rope to be payed out rapidly when needed without sticking. The V-twin works well on thin 8mm up to thicker 10.5mm ropes.

Petzl Grigri
The Grigri is a self-braking belay device much favoured by sport climbers and indoor climbers.
Self-braking system: If the rope suddenly comes under tension(eg in a fall) the cam pivots to pinch the rope, thus helping the belayer stop the climber's fall.
Usage is similar to that of conventional belay devices ie,
Giving/taking slack is done by using both hands to slide the rope through the device,
Falls are held by holding the free end of the rope,
For lowering and abseiling, the rate of descent is controlled by the hand holding the free end of the rope (the rope is released with the handle.
