Buffalo Clothing

When Buffalo first arrived on the scene some 20 years ago, their unique DPsystem revolutionised outdoor clothing.
In 1985 when I was 8 years old my dad and I decided to try out a buffalo mountain shirt. My one was a bit on the big side, but I didn’t care as it was my first real mountain jacket. We used them in the most hostile of conditions , in the depths of winter mostly in the North West highlands. From the majestic peaks and corries of Torridon to the spectacular green mountains of Kintail we nearly always stayed warm and comfortable.
The Buffalo systems deliberately use materials which aren’t waterproof as they breathe far more efficiently. Pertex coupled together with the Aquatherm pile lining dries out rapidly minimizing heat loss.
Nowadays for many winter mountaineers Buffalo clothing is a standard piece of kit. Whether you are going to tackle point five gully on Ben Nevis or heading to the frozen tundra of Antarctica , Buffalo systems will protect you from the elements. A real life saver!

HOW IT WORKS
The outer material is made from pertex .This innovative densely woven capillary fabric absorbs and disperses moisture very rapidly along its fibres over the surface area where it evaporates. Its highly windproof , and highly breathable , repels external moisture , and when used in conjunction with the insulating aquatherm pile fabric developed by Buffalo, results in a system which keeps the user warm , whilst wicking moisture away from the users body , and repelling external penetration of moisture , thereby ensuring that the user is comfortable in cold wet conditions.

BUFFALO FITTINGS
For best results the Buffalo clothing should be worn next to the skin. Although some people do wear under garments such as base layers , this actually compromises the performance because it isolates the quick wicking pile from the skin . If you feel the need to wear a baselayer make sure it has high wicking properties for example Paramo Cambia or similar or even Merino wool . It very important that you do not use cotton as a base layer as this is the worst material for insulation and wicking.!!!
The Buffalo clothing should be worn close fitting and not baggy. This enhances the insulating properties and minimises heat loss.
Made to order items are also available but please allow 3 weeks in summer and up to 2 months in winter for your order.
